Police cripple robbery gang with arrest of seven suspects

TAIPING: The police have crippled a robbery gang dubbed 'Amir Batu 16', following the arrest of seven suspects, including two former military personnel, in Kamunting and Taiping in several raids over two days, beginning Jan 25.
The suspects, including the mastermind, are aged between 20 and 30.
Taiping police chief ACP Mohamad Taib said today, their arrests could help solve two robbery cases, three motorcycle theft cases and two acts of mischief here, Batu Kurau and Kamunting.
He said in the first raid on Jan 25, a man believed to be the right-hand man to the mastermind was picked up at a restaurant in Jalan Kamunting, Kamunting before another suspect was nabbed at a house in Taman Mewah, Kamunting.
He added the police were led to a workshop in Taman Saujana Jaya, Assam Kumbang, where a black Wira Aeroback, believed to have been used during robberies was seized to facilitate investigations.
On the same day, the mastermind was nabbed at a night market site in Taman Lela, Kamunting.
Upon questioning, the man led to the arrest of four other members of the gang and seizure of two motorcycles, sword, two mobile phones and a helmet, the following day.
Mohamad said the seven suspects tested positive for methamphetamine.
In a separate case, Mohamad said the police detained two men for suspected drug trafficking in two separate raids in Matang and Kampung Banggol, Changkat Jering here on Jan 31 and last Friday.
He said in the first raid on Jan 31, a 39-year-old man was nabbed at a house in Kampung Banggol, Changkat Jering at 3.30am.
Seized from the suspect were 36g of heroin and 2.5g of ganja.
Mohamad said in the second raid on Friday, a 58-year-old man was nabbed at a house in Sungai Mati, Matang at 11.30pm and 333g of ganja were seized. — Bernama
