PETALING JAYA: Teachers are allowed to bring their mobile phones to school but its usage is limited to after school hours and free periods.
However, the usage of the mobile phones must not be a disturbance to the teaching and learning process, said Deputy Education Minister Datuk P. Kamalanathan tweeted today.
He said technology plays a role in education. “In today’s learning environment obviously teachers can use their phones to integrate lessons using the 21st-century technology and methodology,” he said.
“Teachers are a fundamental and pivotal part of our education system and I’m sure they optimize their phones to enrich the teaching and learning quality.
“In fact, I know many teachers who use their own phone’s data plan for the benefit of their students and I applaud and encourage their noble effort full-heartedly.”
It was reported that teachers were not allowed from bringing or using their mobile phones while in class.
This comes following a report that 14-year-old M. Vasanthapiriya had committed suicide after being accused of stealing a teacher’s mobile phone recently.
