Couple nabbed over 70 house break-ins

GEORGE TOWN: Penang police detained a husband and wife for their alleged involvement in 70 house break-in cases involving luxury homes in several states during a raid in Klang, Selangor last Saturday.
State police chief Datuk A. Thaiveegan said the couple, aged 35 and 38, were picked up at their rented condominium unit in Klang, Selangor about 5pm following intelligence and surveillance conducted by the Penang police.
"The police have initially received a report lodged by a businessman over house break-in at his condominium unit in Jelutong on Jan 31. Subsequently, we launched a manhunt and managed to arrest the couple.
"Based on initial investigation, they have (allegedly) involved in such cases at luxury condominiums and bungalows in several states, including Penang, with three other men aged between 30 and 40," he told a press conference here today.
Thaiveegan said the parents of two admitted to be involved in 70 house break-ins including Johor, Malacca, Negri Sembilan, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Perak, Kedah and Penang (20 cases) since 2015.
Police seized what was believed to be stolen items such as cash, jewellery, branded handbags, mobile phones and branded watches, as well as a taser gun and pawnshop receipts worth more than RM300,000 in total, he added. — Bernama
