Goldsmith store robbed of RM720k in jewellery

PETALING JAYA: A goldsmith store in a shopping mall at Kota Damansara was hit by robbers today for the second time in just over three months.
Three men wearing masks, gloves and caps barged into the goldsmith store located in a shopping mall at 11.45am, escaping with eight trays of gold jewellery worth RM720,000.
Staff and customers at the store scurried out of the store on seeing the robbers.
Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Mohd Zani Che Din said a robber who was carrying a revolver held up an armed security guard before snatching his shotgun.
He said while the gunman stood watch, his accomplices scooped out the gems from the showcases and filled up their bags.
It is learnt that the robbery lasted less than 10 minutes and the robbers were spotted escaping in a white Perodua Myvi that was driven by a fourth accomplice and fitted with false registration plates.
Police recovered the guard's shotgun which was disposed by the robbers at the carpark of the mall
On Nov 1 last year, the goldsmith store was robbed of more than RM1 million by two parang-wielding robbers less than an hour after the place opened for business.
Police urged witnesses and those with information on the whereabouts of the robbers to contact the nearest police station.
