Kedah police to focus on 18 accident-prone hotspots

CHANGLUN: Kedah police have identified 18 accident-prone hotspots in the state which they will focus on during the 'Op Selamat 12/2018' road-safety campaign in conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year.
Kedah Police chief Datuk Zainal Abidin Kassim said the campaign, which would be on until Feb 23, would involve 1,488 police officers and personnel.
He spoke to reporters after launching the 'Op Selamat 12/2018' road-safety campaign in conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year at the Napoh Rural Transformation Centre near here today.
Zainal Abidin said the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department would also conduct urine tests on road users, especially drivers of heavy vehicles and public transport vehicles such as buses and lorries.
"The Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department will step up patrols in housing areas during the festive season," he said.
He also said that the "Op Selamat 2017" road-safety campaign had helped to reduce the number of fatal road accidents in Kedah by 9% from the previous year's and the number of road-accident deaths dropped by eight, from 22 to 14. — Bernama
