Kuwait invites Malaysia to international conference for reconstruction of Iraq

KUALA LUMPUR: Kuwait has invited Malaysia to participate in the Kuwait International Conference for the Reconstruction of Iraq to be held in Kuwait City from Feb 12-14.
The conference organised jointly by Kuwait, Iraq, the European Union, the United Nations and the World Bank, aims at mobilising international support for the rebuilding of infrastructure in Iraq and to enhance cooperation between international donors and private investors.
The Kuwaiti ambassador to Malaysia, Saad Abdullah al-Asousi said he had sent a formal invitation to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak to attend the conference.
"Being a developed and competitive nation in the construction sector, Malaysia can contribute to the rebuilding of infrastructure for the reconstruction of Iraq.
"The conference hosted by the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah, requires expertise of all countries including Malaysia to rebuild Iraq," he told Bernama in an exclusive interview at his office here, recently.
Commenting further, al-Asousi said the conference is being held for the first time after Iraq was fully liberated from the Daesh terrorist group.
On Dec 9, 2017, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi proclaimed victory over Daesh.
"We want to invite Malaysian companies to participate in this conference and compete with international companies to vie for some of these development projects.
"So far, more than 1,800 companies from 70 countries have confirmed their presence in this conference," said al-Asousi.
The Ministerial Meeting of the International Coalition Against Daesh will be held on Feb 13 to formulate efforts and strategies among member states to combat terrorism.
During the meeting, Kuwait will deliver a clear message to combat terrorism from all aspects. — Bernama
