Vasanthapiriya was confined to counselling room, says father

NIBONG TEBAL: The father of M. Vasanthapiriya has dismissed claims that his daughter had spent time with a female teacher at the school canteen hours before her death.
The Form Two student, who was accused of stealing a teacher's mobile phone, was said to be in the canteen between 4.30pm and 5pm on Jan 17, hours before she attempt suicide. She died at about 3.30am on Feb 1.
R. Muniandy, 54, said her daughter was not allowed to go anywhere after she was accused of stealing the handphone.
"No, it is not true, she was confined to a counseling room at the school," he told theSun today.
A news portal today earlier reported that a canteen worker said a female teacher had spent time with Vasanthapiriya at the canteen hours.
The canteen worker said Vasanthapiriya was not in usual jovial mood and look a bit fearful.
Muniandy said his family are seeking legal advice on his daughter's death.
He said he would reveal more information on his daughter's death after getting advise from the family's lawyer.
The Form Two succumbed to her injuries at Hospital Seberang Jaya, after she attempted to take own life by hanging herself in her room at her house in Nibong Tebal last week.
