SEPANG: In conjunction with the with the Chinese New year festive season, the Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has projected a surge of nearly 40% in daily passenger movement at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2) from Feb 14 to Feb 18.
MAHB's KLIA head of operations, Mohd Arif Jaafar said the airport operator would be working closely with several authorities to implement various measures and initiatives to ensure a seamless and joyful travelling experience for passengers during the festive season.
"We will be placing more resources on the ground – not just by us, but also by other agencies at the airport," he said in a statement here today.
He said with MAHB, working in tandem with the Royal Malaysia Police to ensure smoother traffic flow at the kerbside, there was now strict enforcement of a two-minute limit pick-up time.
"Installation of bollards at the pick-up lanes will also prevent any unauthorised parking that will contribute to traffic congestion," added Mohd Arif.
He said towing zones had also been introduced within the airport area to discourage indiscriminate parking that would endanger other motorists.
According to Mohd Arif, a total of 55 vehicles per minute will pass through the KLIA terminal during peak periods.
Meanwhile, MAHB managing director Datuk Badlisham Ghazali in the statement said the self-bag drop facility would be fully available at klia2, starting next week.
"This will definitely shorten queueing time for passengers as processing time at the check-in counters will only take one minute now if they use this facility," he said, adding that Malaysia Airlines had committed that all of its 74 check-in counters would be fully manned at the KLIA main terminal during the festive season.
MAHB, in its travel advisory has urged passengers to arrive at least three hours before flight departure time and utilise the automated processes available whenever possible, such as web check-in, self-check-in kiosks, self-baggage-drop counters and immigration autogates. — Bernama
