PBB to continue championing state rights as enshrined in MA63

KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), the backbone of the state Barisan Nasional (BN), will continue to champion the rights of Sarawak as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Abang Johari, who is also PBB president, said PBB enjoyed cordial ties with the federal government that allowed close cooperation between both sides.
"What makes PBB continued to be relevant and stronger is because of its approach that takes into account the interests of all races and religions," he said when opening the 14th PBB Women and Youth Movements triennial general assembly at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching here today.
The MA63 issue is among three motions to be presented at the 14th PBB triennial general assembly before it is submitted to the federal government.
"In PBB, we have leaders with calibre, we move together for the benefit of the Pesaka and Bumiputera wings," he said, adding that PBB's biggest contribution was towards the progress of Sarawak.
Since PBB was first helmed by Tun Jugah Barieng, Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakub, then later by Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud and the late Tan Sri Adenan Satem, the party has contributed to the 'politics of development', he said.
It saw the transformation of the state's development landscape with the opening of new towns and rural development, said Abang Johari.
He said a change in leadership within the party was also undertaken smoothly without any discontent or factions in which the veterans were ready to step down and make way for young leaders.
In this regard, he urged members and leaders of the party's younger generation to continue the transformation to spearhead PBB into a better future, especially in facing a digital era. — Bernama
