PBB women strives to ensure members play crucial role in party, state: Fatimah

KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) newly minted Women chief Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the movement will strive to ensure its members played an important role in the development of PBB and the state in line with their role as the pulse of the state Barisan Nasional (BN) party.
She said PBB Women would support the party's motion on women's rights to education and economic opportunities apart from the motion to support the state government's efforts to champion for Sarawak's rights as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
"PBB Wanita will ensure that PBB remains relevant and seeks to increase party membership, which comprises 323,023 members in the main body, 153,962 members in Women and 36,060 members in PBB Youth," she told reporters at the 14th PBB triennial general assembly here today.
Fatimah, who is also Sarawak Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister, had won the post uncontested, succeeding her predecessor Tan Sri Empiang Jabu.
She describes her position as a huge responsibility and trust and would strive to execute her duties with full commitment.
Fatimah, a former educator, first ventured into politics in 2010 when the then chief minister Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud chose her to contest in the Sarawak state election.
Meanwhile, Gerald Rentap Jabu, who also won the post of PBB Youth chief uncontested, said the wing's immediate task was to ensure the BN wins in the coming 14th General Election and support the digital economy initiative being implemented by the state government.
He said PBB Youth would also table a motion to support the state government's efforts to claim Sarawak's rights under the MA63 besides proposing that the government repair dilapidated schools, promote education achievements and improve the youth's economy in the state.
Rentap took over the post from Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who is also Works Minister. — Bernama
