50 Larut PPBM members quit to join Umno

SELAMA: About 50 members of the opposition Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) in Larut quit the party today and joined Umno.
They were led by the former secretary of PPBM Larut, Shafie Mohd Khairy, who said they had lost confidence in the PPBM leadership and struggle because the party only championed the interests of certain individuals.
They did not have trust in the leadership of Perak PPBM chairman Ahmad Faizal Azumu because his appointment was made with the influence of DAP, he said at a press conference here.
At the event, the 50 PPBM members handed in their application forms to join Umno to Larut Umno Division chief Datuk Faizul Arby Mohd Shohor, witnessed by Umno Supreme Council member and Larut MP Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
Shafie said they supported Umno because the party had been consistent in taking care of the interests of the Malays.
Hamzah said more groups from PPBM would join Umno.
He claimed that PPBM chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was only interested in ensuring the future of his children and cronies. — Bernama
