VILLAGERS in Beaufort, Sabah, were stunned to discover that a goat had given birth to a one-eyed kid on Friday.
Goat herder Awang Rosli Mat Taib, 47, said he heard loud noises from one of his animals in his goat pen at 8pm that day. The next day he discovered the newborn goat with just one eye.
"We were surprised by the birth of the special offspring with only one eye," he said. "The kid is weak since it has a small mouth and can only consume milk through a syringe,"
He named the kid "Tuah Jabang" and said he would bring it to a vet for further check-up.
Tuah's rare one-eyed condition is classified as the cyclopia syndrome, which occurs in one in every 16,000 born animals.
The condition occurs when the two hemispheres of the brain do not separate which results in a formation of a single central cavity with one eye, or sometimes partially fused or separate eyeballs.
