Police advice students against uploading inappropriate videos on social media

KUALA NERUS: The police have advised students against being overenthusiastic about uploading and making viral inappropriate videos on social media.
Kuala Terengganu District Police deputy chief Supt Suffian Sulaiman said the videos recorded by students might initially be just for 'fun' but it could have other implications later on.
"Criminal cases among students is not at a serious level, but the culture of making videos go viral have caused it to become a serious issue. Actually, the cases may be trivial, however, when it is made viral (on social media) it creates the 'fear of crime' among the people.
"For example, bullying cases. They (students) may have already planned to record it and so on, and we are also not sure if the footage was taken for blackmail or otherwise," he said when met by Bernama at the opening of the Eastern Region MRSM Police Cadet Camp at Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) Kuala Terengganu here today.
According to Suffian, the students who recorded these kinds of videos may not know that it was an offence under the Communications and Multimedia Commission Act, adding that students needed to be made aware of the matter. — Bernama
