KUALA LUMPUR: A Standard One student from a school in Lenggeng, Negri Sembilan suffered burns to her lips after she was allegedly forced to drink boiling water by her stepmother.
The incident last Monday occurred after her birth mother sent the victim, the youngest of four children, to her ex-husband's home in Lenggeng.
Nurul Dahlia Jaafar (the victim's mother), said she realised what had happened when she went to pick her daughter up at about 12.30pm on Friday.
"It was then I realised she had burns all over her lips. When I asked her what happened, she told me she was forced to drink boiling water," she said, adding she was shocked over what occured to her daughter.
She said she then took her daughter to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment before lodging a police report.
She said she separated from her husband in 2011 and handed over custodial rights to him when she underwent some financial difficulties.
Her husband remarried in December 2016. Their children are aged 14, 13, eight and seven.
"When I lodged a report, there was no action as the police considered this a domestic issue," she added.
