GANGNEUNG, South Korea: The Netherlands maintained their immaculate speed-skating record at the Pyeongchang Olympics on Tuesday with a Dutch double in the men's 1,500m as Kjeld Nuis stormed to gold ahead of compatriot Patrick Roest.
The dominant Dutch have now won all four of the golds up for grabs so far in South Korea in speed skating and currently hold all speedskating Olympic titles.
Nuis was particularly impressive in becoming the first reigning world champion to subsequently win the Olympic title in the distance.
He did so at a canter, beating out his fellow Dutchman Roest by 0.85sec with home hope Kim Min-seok riding on the back of the encouragement of the home crowd for bronze.
Sven Kramer (men's 5,000m), Ireen Wust (women's 1,500m) and Carlijn Achtereekte (women's 3,000m) have all picked up gold so far in Pyeongchang. — AFP
