KUALA TERENGGANU: The Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) office in Terengganu crippled an online business scam involving fake Adidas branded products.
Its director Saharuddin Mad Kia said the operation conducted yesterday was based on information from a purchaser who found he was deceived after purchasing two pairs of Adidas slippers at RM80 each.
"Not satisfied with the low quality of the goods, the customer lodged a complaint with the KPDNKK.
"Our officers under the cyber team then gathered intelligence for a week before identifying the modus operandi, including scrutinising the suspect's Facebook page," he told a media conference here, today.
Saharuddin said the suspect's business premises was detected at Dataran Austin, Gong Badak. It is believed the individual had been carrying out the business for four years, advertising the products as genuine, through a Facebook page.
"Actually the goods sold (by the suspect) are fake and made in China and not from Italy, as labelled," he said, adding that the authorities would also be seeking cooperation from Adidas to verify the authenticity of the goods. — Bernama
