'Datuk' among four arrested over false claims amounting to RM26.3m (Updated)

KUALA LUMPUR: A former general manager of an air conditioning manufacturer who is a Datuk and three others including a woman were arrested by police on Monday for allegedly making false claims for logistics services amounting to RM26.3 million.
Federal commercial crimes investigations department (CCID) director Commissioner Datuk Seri Amar Singh Ishar Singh said today the four suspects who are aged between 39 and 46 were arrested in Klang and Shah Alam for allegedly submitting the claims to Panasonic Appliances Air-Conditioning Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PAACM).
He said the offences occurred between 2008 and 2014 when the Datuk who is the main suspect in the case was employed as a general manager of the company's material and logistics control department.
Amar Singh said the suspect had allegedly made the claims under 11 transport companies.
He said the PAACM only discovered the fraud early 2015 when it appointed an external auditing agency to examine the invoices submitted by the Datuk.
Amar Singh said 11 police reports were lodged and police commenced investigations for cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
He said the Datuk will be charged in court on tomorrow for 93 counts of cheating.
Amar Singh said the other three suspects, all who are owners of transport companies will also be hauled up to court tomorrow to face charges for cheating on 83 counts between them.
He said police have completed the probe on five of the 11 investigation papers opened on the case. He said the remaining six will be concluded soon.
