Global coalition pledge their continued fight against Daesh

KUWAIT CITY: The Global Coalition Against Daesh, a joint international organisation set up to counter terrorism, has pledged to cut down the number of terrorists and the funding that has been supporting the militant group.
Kuwait's Foreign Minister, Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, who is also Deputy Minister in the country's Prime Minister's Department, said the matter is given the most serious consideration and continues to be a priority for the global coalition.
"Indeed a special force has been monitoring and identifies the group with the advisory services of experts from the member countries," he told a press conference at the end of the ministerial level meeting of the global coalition members held at the Istana Bayan, here on Tuesday.
The meeting was held in conjunction with the three-day Kuwait International Conference on the Reconstruction of Iraq (Kicri) which took place here beginning Monday.
The Global Coalition Against Daesh was established in September 2014 following the rise of the Daesh and its threat to world peace and security.
The coalition has 71 members including Malaysia and four institutions, namely the Arab League, Interpol, North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (Nato) and the European Union.
On the meeting, Khaled said it was a follow-up to the previous meeting to further integrate international efforts in various aspects in the fight against the Daesh threat.
"This meeting also underlined several guidelines to prevent funding for the group and stop the entry of terrorists to any of the country.
"The coalition also looked into streamlining communications between the members to further weaken the efforts of Daesh to spread their teachings, propaganda and prevent their efforts to recruit new members into their group and cut their presence in the internet and social media," he added.
On Tuesday, the United States pledged US$200 million (RM785 million) in funds to held the coalition fight the Daesh and prevent them from entering Syria and Iraq again. — Bernama
