SINGAPORE: As Chinese New Year is approaching, travellers to Singapore are reminded not to bring in "Bak Kwa" or the Chinese sweet meat jerky from Malaysia.
Malaysia is not an approved country for the importation of meat products to the republic, according to the Singapore Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA).
Currently, Singapore has approved 21 countries, including Canada, Netherlands and the United States, for the import of pork and pork products to the country.
Since Feb 8, ICA officers at the Woodlands checkpoint have detected four cases of 'Bak Kwa' which were concealed in cookie and snack packaging.
The packets of "Bak Kwa" were disposed of.
For a list of approved countries, the public can refer to Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore's website, www.ava.gov.sg or the SG TravelKaki App. — Bernama
