JOHOR BAHRU: A male foreigner, believed to be a member of the 'Samun Keluar Bank' case, was shot dead by police at Jalan Dato Onn Utama, Bandar Dato Onn, near here, last night.
Johor Deputy Police Chief, Datuk Mohd Kamarudin Md Din said in the incident at 10.50pm, a police team from the Bukit Aman Special Task Force On Organised Crime (STAFOC) and the Serious Crime Unit (D9) of the Johor Contingent Police Headquarters had been trailing a suspicious looking vehicle.
"Upon reaching Bandar Dato Onn, they (police) ordered the suspect to stop.
"However, the suspect had acted aggressively and knocked the police vehicle while firing several shots in an effort to escape," he told reporters at the crime scene, at midnight last night.
Consequently, police returned fire before the suspect was confirmed dead at the scene of the incident.
Upon inspection at the location, police found a 38 revolver in the suspect's car.
"The suspect is believed to be involved in armed robbery cases.
"We will continue to investigate whether he was also involved in other cases as well as the suspect's colleagues who might also be involved in robbing bank customers," said Kamarudin.
The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder. — Bernama
