Couple remanded following death of infant

BUKIT MERTAJAM: A couple have been remanded for seven days beginning today until Feb 22 to facilitate investigations into the death of their 46-day-old baby girl.
Both the husband and wife aged 22, arrived at the court compound in handcuffs today morning.
Court registrar Nor Hapipah Abdullah granted the remand order against both the suspects to facilitate investigations under the Child Act 2001.
Central Seberang Prai district police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Hamid said based on their urine tests, the couple tested negative for drug consumption.
They were detained after their baby girl died enroute to the hospital from their home in Kampung Tok Panjang, Bukit Tengah yesterday.
A medical examination of the child revealed old injuries and bruises.
The father works as a lorry driver.
