Only one percent of Malaysians believe in false news

KUALA LUMPUR: Only one percent of Malaysians believe in "false news" that is spread through social media.
Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong (pix) added that such news would potentially scare away foreign investors.
"News like the EPF is not stable and the spread of issues touching on the sensitivities of the different races and religion also jeopardises the unity of the people in Malaysia.
"Although research shows that most Malaysians do not believe such false news, only one percent is needed 'to spoil' Malaysia," he told the media at Menara PGRM here today.
He added that even if that one percent of people believe and start to panic, this would indirectly leave a deep impact as it shows as though Malaysia is bankrupt and people are living in chaos.
"The spread of false news is not only read by Malaysians but by people from the entire world. This is something to worry about," he said.
Mah said his Chinese New Year wish was for people to stop spreading false news and verify before forwarding anything.
