Royal cheer for CNY gathering

JOHOR BARU: Johor Tourism, Trade and Consumerism Committee chairman Datuk Tee Siew Kiong received a visit from the entire Johor royal family in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration, at his residence in Taman Setia Tropika here today.
Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar and his wife, Permaisuri of Johor Raja Zarith Sofiah Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah arrived at the residence at 10.15am, and were accompanied by their children, Tunku Panglima Johor Tunku Abdul Rahman and Tunku Putera Johor Tunku Abu Bakar, as well as their son-in-law Dennis Muhammad Abdullah.
The royal entourage was greeted with a lion dance that was accompanied by drum and kompang beats before taking a keepsake photograph with hosts, Tee and his wife, Datin Lee Choon Guek, as well as their family members and relatives.
Sultan Ibrahim also took the opportunity to complete a Chinese calligraphy proverb, "Jia He Wan Shi Xing", meaning "harmony in a family brings success to everything", before joining in the Chinese New Year feast.
Before leaving the residence, the Johor ruler wished a happy Chinese New Year to all celebrating the festivity and called for the people of Johor to maintain unity to ensure the success of the state.
Meanwhile, Tee said the strong and stable Johor community also helped to attract tourists to the state.
This was the second time the Johor royal family had attended a Chinese New Year open house gathering at Tee's residence since 2016. — Bernama
