KOTA MARUDU: The top level of the Kota Marudu market where textiles were sold was destroyed in a fire early this morning.
Kota Marudu Fire Station Chief Rony Sikawan said an emergency call came through at 3.07am and a team of fire-fighters arrived at the scene which was about 300 metres away, about two minutes later.
"Twelve fire-fighters including the operations head and two volunteers put out the fire, preventing it from spreading to the lower floors of the building," he said in a statement here.
Rony said the fire was brought under control at 4.50am and put out by 7am.
There was no report of casualties or deaths but the cause of the fire was still being investigated, he said. — Bernama
