GEORGE TOWN: An unusually strong wind today ripped off part of a hypermarket's rooftop in Air Itam and caused a fright among shoppers going about their last-minute shopping ahead of the Chinese New Year.
Many were at the single floor hypermarket to buy for grocery items when the rare incident occurred.
It is learnt that the 2.45pm incident blew off parts of the hypermarket's rooftop during what appeared the normal sunny weather.
Many were caught off guard over the incident but fortunately, no major injury nor casualty reported.
Shoppers immediately escorted out from the affected area as a precaution.
The hypermarket's management confirmed the incident and will reveal further details later.
