Cockfight gambling: Police arrest 76 men in Kuala Ketil

ALOR STAR: The police arrested 76 men believed to be involved in illegal cockfight gambling activities and seized almost RM140,000 in cash during the operation codenamed 'Op Limau' at the Tanah Licin Oil Palm Estate in Kuala Ketil near Baling.
Kedah Criminal Investigation Department chief SAC Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the men, aged between 17 and 65, were arrested by the police in a raid between 7.45pm and 4am.
He said two of the 76 men suffered injuries after they fell down a cliff near a river while attempting to escape from the police.
"The two men are now at the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital in Sungai Petani ... the cliff was quite deep and they were also running in panic in the dark," he said in a statement, today.
Mior Faridalathrash said the police also seized 41 cockerels and a variety of equipment used in the activity.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 7 (2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 and Section 44 (1) (g) of the Animals Act 1953.
He said seven officers and 20 police personnel from the D7 and D9 divisions of the Kedah Police Headquarters CID and Baling Police Headquarters CID were involved in the operation. — Bernama
