Body of abused maid arrives in Indonesia

PETALING JAYA: The body of Indonesian domestic worker Adelina Lisao, who died in Penang on Feb 11, arrived at the El Tari International Aiport in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, today.
Indonesian media reported that family members were inconsolable upon seeing the coffin carrying the 21-year-old woman, flown in from Malaysia.
Adelina's aunt, Petronela Koa could not hold back tears as she approached the coffin, despite being consoled by several family members.
The body was later transported to Adelina's home in Oenino district, 150km from Kupang, where her parents were waiting.
Adelina died on Feb 11 while receiving treatment in a hospital in Bukit Mertajam due to alleged abuse by her employers.

Adelina's family spokesperson Ambrosius Ku said both of the deceased's parents were grieving at their home, waiting for the arrival of their child.
"We are saddened that Adelina returned home in this condition," he was quoted as saying.
He called on Malaysian authorities to bring Adelina's employers to justice for their act.
Adelina died last Sunday while receiving treatment in a hospital in Bukit Mertajam due to alleged abuse by her employers. Her death triggered outrage from non-governmental organisations and netizens.
She had been forced to sleep in the car porch with her employer's dog for over a month, and had also suffered bruises on multiple parts of her body.
Two siblings and a 60-year-old woman, had since been remanded by the police in connection with Adelina's death.
Indonesia authorities had also arrested two individuals on human trafficking charges after establishing a link with the death of Adelina.
Indonesian authorities said the employment recruiters – an unidentified husband and wife – used forged documents to send Adelina to Malaysia in 2015.
