NILAI: The national paralympic track cycling squad proved they were in their own class when they delivered two gold, four silver and three bronze medals on the second day of the Asian Track Cycling Championship (ATC) 2018 at the National Velodrome, here yesterday.
The country's gold medals were won by the duo, Muhammad Afiq Afify Rizan-Muhammad Khairul Adha Rasol, who clocked 10.659 seconds (s) and 10.833s in the men's B sprint event to beat Aiman Asyraff Ahmad Bajuri-Mohd Faizal Mohamed Noh who won silver.
The duo, Nur Azlia Syafinaz Mohd Zais-Noraidillina J.SAM also won gold in the same event for the women's category after recording 12.409s and 12.305s, forcing another national pair, Nur Syahida Tajudin-Nurul Suhada Zainal to settle for the silver.
Two other silver medals were contributed by Shukor Farhan Suliman in the C1-C3 men's individual pursuit event followed by Mohd Najib Turano in the C4-C5 men's individual pursuit event.
At the same time, three bronze medals were won respectively by Mohamad Yusof Hafizi Shaharuddin (C1-C3 men's individual pursuit), Muhammad Fadli Imammuddin (C4-C5 individual pursuit) and the duo Muhammad Khairul Nizam Mohd Ali-Muhammad Firdaus Mohd Zonis in the men's B sprint event.
Meanwhile, Malaysia's desire to add to the collection of medals remained unfulfilled after the national women cyclist, Nur Faizah Aziz lost to Japan's Keiko Noguchi in the 500m time trial event and the individual pursuit, which saw only two riders vying for the gold medal. — Bernama
