54 illegal immigrants detained in 'Op Mega'

ALOR STAR: The Kedah Immigration Department detained 54 illegal immigrants of various nationalities in a major operation dubbed 'Op Mega' at four separate locations in the mukim of Naga, Kubang Pasu early this morning.
Its director, Zuhair Jamaludin said the operation which was carried out from 1am until 3.05am involved inspections at four construction sites and 'kongsi houses' in Mukim Naga.
"Inspection was carried out on 85 illegal immigrants of various nationalities and of the total, 29 men, four women and a child were Indonesians, 17 men were Bangladeshi nationals and three Myanmar men aged between one and 57 years were detained," he said in a statement, here today.
He said all those detained were placed at the Immigration lock-up, Ministry of Home Affairs Building, Alor Star for investigation before being sent to the Belantik Immigration Detention Depot, Sik. — Bernama
