Couple charged with extortion in porn video case

IPOH: An estranged couple claimed trial after they were jointly charged at the sessions court today with extorting money from an individual whom they alleged had sent a pornographic video to the wife's smartphone in 2015.
The couple, Muhammad Kasim A. Zamzami, 34, who is unemployed and factory worker Noraniza Jelani, 30, are now believed to be in the process of obtaining a divorce.
Muhammad Kasim, also faces a separate charge for the same offence.
The accused had apparently extorted RM10,000 from Yap Ing Choon, 34, whom he alleged had sent the video to Noraniza's smartphone. He threatened the victim that a police report would be lodged against him if the money was not paid.
The alleged offence was committed between 12pm and 2pm at the Road Transport Department on Jalan Kompleks Sukan here on June 30, 2015.
Judge S. Indera Nehru set bail at RM9,000 with one surety.
Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy public prosecutor Rais Imran Hamid prosecuted, while the couple was unrepresented.
The court granted RM20,000 bail for all three charges faced by the man and another RM20,000 for all three charges framed against the woman with one surety each.
The offence under Section 384 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum 10 years' jail, fine, or whipping, or any two such punishments upon conviction.
Indera Nehru set Feb 26 for mention.
