May 3 trial for teacher accused of voluntarily hurting year three pupil

NIBONG TEBAL: The magistrate's court today fixed May 3 as the date for the trial of an English teacher who was accused of voluntarily causing hurt to a year three pupil last year.
Magistrate Hizreen Azleena Othman Kamal fixed the date after the prosecution submitted the alleged victim's medical report.
The teacher, Noor Idzahril Ahmad, 52, claimed trial on Dec 11 to injuring the nine-year-old at Class 3 Bestari Seri Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Sentosa, Nibong Tebal here at 10am on Aug 2.
The charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code provides for a maximum jail sentence of one year or a fine of up to RM2,000 or both, upon conviction.
Speaking outside the courtroom counsel Mohd Fadhly Yaacob said the defence requested for the earliest date for the hearing as it involves public interest.
"We suggested the trial to be fixed on March during the school holiday, however, the court have no available date during that period," he said.
Mohd Fadhly also pointed out that he has prepared all the documents pertaining to the case and will finalise the witnesses who will testify.
Earlier more than 50 of well-wishers and supporters of Noor Idzahril, including those from non-governmental organisations gathered at the court compound to offer moral support to the accused.
Also present was the president of Congress of Teachers Union in the Education Service Malaysia (KKGPP) Dato Mohamed Sabri Mohd Arsad.
