Penang Hot Air Balloon Fiesta this weekend

GEORGE TOWN: Some 100,000 people are expected to attend the fourth edition of the Penang Hot Air Balloon Fiesta this weekend from 7am to 9.30pm at Padang Polo here.

Held in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration, this year's fiesta will highlight seven specially shaped balloons that have not been seen in the skies over Malaysia before.

A total of 16 colourful hot air balloons will be displayed during the morning (7.30am to 9.30am) and evening (6pm to 9.30pm) sessions.

AKA Balloon Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Izzati Khairudin said the seven specially shaped balloons will feature a heart shape, a Yoda shape and a little-dog-shaped design.

To ease traffic flow during the event, organiser AKA Balloon, in collaboration with Tourism Malaysia, has partnered with e-hailing app Uber to offer a promo code, 'HAB2018' that is worth RM7 per booking for up to seven bookings per unique user to ride to and from the event location.

Penang Global Tourism chief executive officer Ooi Chok Yan also encouraged visitors to consider taking the free shuttle buses that will come from three different points on the island to Padang Polo.

"The routes are from Weld Quay to Komtar and to Padang Polo, Tesco Tanjung Tokong to Padang Polo and Queensbay Mall to Sungai Nibong bus terminal to Padang Polo," Ooi stated.

State traffic police chief Supt Fakhrul Zaman Husin urged the public to adhere to instructions given by the organiser and police while attending the event.
