PH to take RoS to court over application disagreement

PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan (PH) plans to take the Registrar of Societies (RoS) to court for failing to respond to their application to register the coalition and its logo. The coalition's president, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, said they will be filling the application within the next two days.
"Our problem is that we cannot make any preparation for the coming general election until we receive a response from the RoS.
"We cannot say that our application has been accepted nor can we say it has been rejected," he said, adding that this has put the coalition in a quandary.
Mahathir believes that it is the duty of a government agency to carry out its duties and reply to applications made by any party. Any failure to reply may create the impression that the agency is being one-sided.
He said the coalition is also worried about postal votes, as the figure for those votes had jumped from over 400,000 in the last general election to over one million at present.
Speaking to reporters after chairing the PH presidential council meeting, Mahathir said the coalition has written to several international organisations such as the United Nations and the Commonwealth to ask them to send observers for the election.
"Whether the observers will be present will depend on the government as they are the ones who must approve the application," he noted.
On the allocation of seats in Selangor, he said the coalition's partners have not been able to reach an agreement on several seats. They have until this Friday to reach a deal, failing which they must inform their respective party headquarters.
Mahathir said the presidential council will then make a decision which would be final.
The former premier added that PH partners have already reached an agreement on the allocation of seats in four states.
He however refused to name the states concerned.
