3 traders charged over fake milk formula in Johor

JOHOR BARU: Three traders were charged at the Sessions Court today for selling fake infant formula.
Yap Kai Chai, 59, Ling Mei Nar, 42, and Yap Chang Hong, 26 are joint-owners of several branches of TCM Yong Thye Lian.
Yap Kai Chai and Yap Chang Hong were jointly charged for selling 208 units of fake milk powder - Enfalac A+Step 1 (1.8kg) at the TCM Yong Thye Lian branch in Taman Seri Orkid at 4.40pm on Dec 7, 2017.
They were jointly charged under Section 8 (2)(c) of the Trade Descriptions Act 2011, for which they are liable to face a fine of up to RM10,000 for a first offence, RM20,000 for subsequent offences and a maximum five-year jail term upon conviction.
Both the father and son also face another charge of selling one unit of fake milk powder - Enfalac A+Step 1 (1.8kg) at the TCM Yong Thye Lian branch in Nusa Bestari at 2pm on Dec 7, 2017.
Meanwhile, Yap Kai Chai and his sister-in-law, Ling Mei Nar were jointly charged under Section 8 (2)(b) of the Trade of Descriptions Act 2011 for selling one unit of fake milk powder- Enfalac A+Step 1 (1.8kg) at the TCM Yong Thye Lian branch in Mutiara Rini at 1pm on Dec 7, 2017.
The suspected infant formula boxes were placed together with the original milk on shelves and was sold at the same price of about RM200 each.
Session judge Jalani Rahman set March 23 for case management.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Lydia Salleh prosecuted while the three of them were represented by defence counsel C.S.Lim.
