Fifth victim in Gerik collision dies at Taiping Hospital

TAIPING: The fifth victim in the accident involving three vehicles at KM45.5 Jalan Raya Timur-Barat (JRTB) Gerik-Jeli on Sunday died at the Taiping Hospital, here yesterday.
Gerik OCPD, Supt Ismail Che Isa said the victim Azizan Desa, 60, who was the driver of the Audi car, died at 6.45pm yesterday.
"The autopsy carried out at 9.30 last night revealed that the cause of Azizan's death was due to polytrauma," he said in a statement today.
In the collision at 1pm on Sunday, four people died and seven were injured, including two seriously.
Ismail said the four deceased were the driver of the Nissan Frontier, Rosli Zakaria, 54, and his son Muhamad Syafik Rosli, 22, as well as two passengers of the Audi car, Che Wan Teh Abdul Aziz, 54, and Muhammad Khairul Khawrizmie Azizan, 17.
He said preliminary investigation revealed that the accident involved three vehicles namely a Perodua Kenari and Nissan Frontier coming from the direction of Gerik heading for Jeli while the Audi car was coming from the direction of Jeli heading toward Gerik.
"Upon arriving at the scene of the incident which was a bend going downhill, the Audi was believed to have grazed the Kenari, resulting in the Kenari spinning and veering to the right lane while the Audi entered the opposite lane and collided with the Nissan Frontier.
"As a result of the accident, the driver and passenger of the Frontier as well as two passengers of the Audi died on the spot," he said. — Bernama
