Ringgit closes marginally lower versus US dollar

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit closed marginally lower against the US dollar today amid a slight slump in global oil prices, said dealers.
At 6pm, the local note was quoted at 3.9040/9080 versus the greenback from 3.9020/9060 on Tuesday.
OANDA Corp Head of Trading for Asia Pacific Stephen Innes told Bernama that the disruption to the Keystone pipeline provided a fillip to West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil prices while the stronger dollar prompted Brent prices to fall and narrow the WTI-Brent spread.
Meanwhile, the benchmark Brent crude oil was traded 0.94% lower at US$64.44 per barrel.
"The dollar steadied against a basket of currencies on Wednesday, having pulled up from three-year lows set last week as traders shaved off some of the bearish bets against the US currency," said another dealer.
The local unit was higher against a basket of major currencies.
It rose against the Singapore dollar to 2.9551/9595 from Tuesday's 2.9574/9616 and appreciated against the yen to 3.6316/6364 from 3.6399/6447.
The local unit increased against the British pound to 5.4531/4599 from 5.4632/4707 on Tuesday and appreciated against the euro to 4.8144/8209 from 4.8158/8223 yesterday. — Bernama
