Six agriculture projects to be implemented in Labuan

LABUAN: At least six agriculture projects, worth RM423,100 and involving 896 participants, will be implemented on the duty-free-island this year, said Labuan Agriculture director Mohd Jurijh Abdullah Fauzi.
"The projects, through planting incentives to farmers, are aimed at boosting the agro-based products, besides to cater for the increasing demand on the island," he told reporters here today.
He said the projects included selected fruits replanting; vegetable increment aid, watermelon cluster programme; nursery transformation and plant decoration project; urban agriculture development and Malaysian Good Agricultural Practices (My-GAP) Strengthening Program.
Jurijh said the department was also planning to redevelop the existing Kilan Agriculture Project via a beautification project.
"This is part of our plan to develop urban agriculture model, apart from stingless bee (Kelulut) honey rearing, freshwater breeding (aquaculture), planting nursery and low-lying cabbage planting," he said. — Bernama
