1,169 summonses issued for various traffic offences during operation

PETALING JAYA: Selangor police today issued 1,169 summonses in a "Red Light Operation" carried out at 16 locations in the state in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration and Ops Selamat.
Selangor Traffic Investigations and Enforcement chief Supt Azman Shari'at said beating traffic lights topped the list of traffic offences in the two-hour operation which ended at noon.
Some 291 summonses were issued for the offence, followed by driving or riding without licence with 222 summonses, he told reporters after the operation in Kota Damansara here today.
Azman said other offences were driving or riding without valid road tax (72 summonses), no side mirror (50), not wearing helmet (four), registration number not in accordance with specification (108) and miscellaneous traffic offences (422).
The operation was simultaneously conducted in four zones – north zone (Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Klang), south zone (Kuala Langat, Sepang, KLIA, Serdang), central zone (Petaling Jaya, Kajang, Subang Jaya, Shah Alam) and east zone (Hulu Selangor, Sungai Buloh, Gombak, Ampang Jaya).
The operation also resulted in the arrest of a wanted individual following an arrest warrant issued by the Sepang district police headquarters.
Ops Selamat, which began on Feb 9 and ends on Friday, aims to reduce traffic accidents as well as house break-ins during the festive season.
