LUMUT: A total of 86 members of the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) were linked to criminal activities and misconduct last year.
Of this number, five policemen were investigated for drug-related offences while 26 others tested positive for drugs.
Perak police chief Datuk Hasnan Hassan (pix) said 33 others were investigated for criminal offences, seven for syariah-related offences and the rest for corruption.
"Even though the number is only one per cent of the total RMP force in Perak, it cannot be viewed lightly. We must play a more responsible role by taking early steps on any misconduct involving senior and lower-ranking officers," he said.
Hasnan said this at the monthly gathering of the Perak police contingent and a conferment-of-rank ceremony at the Manjung police headquarters here today.
The event saw 105 police personnel promoted to the rank of sub-inspector, sergeant-major and sergeant.
Meanwhile, Hasnan reminded policemen not to be involved in gangsterism which could eventually lead to moral decay. — Bernama
