KUANTAN: The Regent of Pahang Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah (pix) described the East Coast Rail Line (ECRL) project mooted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak as the people's railway project.
Tengku Abdullah said the mega project would not only be capable of becoming the spur for change and the catalyst for the new economic growth on the East Coast, but could also bring the people's ties closer when the travel time between the East Coast and the Klang Valley could be shortened.
"I consider this ECRL project is for the people ... the people's train. It can bring the people of Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu closer to Selangor (Klang Valley).
"Pahang is fortunate because we are located in the middle and this is directly able to add value to Pahang," he said when opening the Tanah Makmur Berhad headquarters and KotaSAS Sales Gallery here today.
The ceremony was also attended by Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob and Tanah Makmur Berhad executive director Tengku Amir Nasser Tengku.
He explained that besides being a liaison to the people in the East Coast and Klang Valley areas, the ECRL project was also seen to be able to become a catalyst to the growth of new towns along the 688-km track including Pahang.
Meanwhile, Tengku Abdullah said the development to make KotaSAS as the new administrative centre of the state government was being actively carried out.
At the same time, he hoped that the environment in KotaSAS would be better in future and provide comfort to the people who would be occupying the new city of Kuantan. — Bernama
