KUALA LUMPUR: The Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) is reviewing the operational procedures of its women-only coach to ensure its effectiveness.
KTMB chief executive officer Mohd Rani Hisham Samsudin said the joint effort with the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) was among the steps taken to educate the public, especially men, on the etiquette when using the special coach.
He said enforcement operations and awareness campaign were launched yesterday to prevent abuse of the facility.
"I urge the public to help and support KTMB by reminding each other on the importance and sensitivity of the ladies coach for the benefit of all passengers," he said in a press statement today.
Mohd Rani Hisham said auxiliary policemen would conduct periodical monitoring inside the coaches to ensure that they would be utilised by women passengers only.
The women-only coach was introduced by KTMB in 2010 on its KTM Komuter service to cater to the comfort and safety of its passengers. — Bernama
