KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak today paid his last respects to the late national football goalkeeper Chow Chee Keong at the Nirvana Memorial Centre in Jalan Sungai Besi here today.
"Paid last respect to late Chow Chee Keong and extended my condolence to the family. He was the greatest goalkeeper Malaysia ever had," he tweeted.
Najib also uploaded several pictures of him signing the visitor's book with the words: "We (Malaysia) will miss him, greatest goalkeeper we ever had."
Chee Keong passed away last Wednesday at the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) after losing his battle against bladder cancer.
He had been hospitalised at the same hospital on Jan 17 to undergo heart bypass surgery.
Malaysians remember him as the player who was named the Best Goalkeeper from 1966-1970 by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
His remains would be cremated at the Nirvana Crematorium in Shah Alam on Sunday. — Bernama
