KOTA BELUD: The Muslim congregation in Kampung Timbang Dayang near here will soon enjoy a new mosque worth RM1.5 million which can cater for 500 men at any one time.
Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak said the government had approved the allocation to build the mosque on a two-hectare land here this year.
"The people in Kampung Timbang Dayang had applied for the mosque for quite some time, and we are grateful to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak for approving the allocation," said Salleh, who is also Usukan assemblyman, when visiting the mosque project site at the village here today.
Salleh said his ministry was also planning to provide other facilities, such as an internet centre, in the mosque compound, so that apart from being a house of worship, the mosque could also be the centre for community programmes, especially among the young people.
"The location of the village is very strategic and it can be developed optimally with the cooperation between the federal and state governments," he said. — Bernama
