SEREMBAN: Six express bus drivers were found to be on drugs during an integrated operation in conjunction with the Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration from Feb 9 to yesterday.
Aged between 25 and 40, they were found to have taken synthetic drugs, said National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) director-general Datuk Dr Abdul Halim Mohd Hussin.
He said the six were among 2,325 bus drivers inspected at 25 major bus terminals nationwide.
"As of yesterday, the six express bus drivers tested positive for drugs and this operation will end on Sunday.
"This shows there are still some public transportation drivers who abuse drugs but the implementation of a continuous operation will be able to weed out drug abuse among them," he told reporters after launching the Combat Drug All Out 3.0 programme organised by the Negeri Sembilan AADK here today.
Also present was state AADK director Nazira Sadiron.
Abdul Halim also recommended that bus companies carry out routine urine tests on drivers to ensure they were free from drugs or refer them to private clinics or health centres to undergo urine tests.
