GEORGE TOWN: Many welfare aid recipients have yet to receive their financial aid since Feb 1 due to a new system implemented by the federal government.
State Welfare, Caring Society and Environment Committee Chairman Phee Boon Poh (pix) said 25% of the recipients have not received the welfare financial aid due to a new system named "1 Government Financial Management System (1GFMAS)" by the federal government.
"The federal government is using the new system, resulting in many aid recipients not receiving their welfare aid for the Chinese New Year," said Phee.
In Penang, a total of 15,636 people are entitled to the aid which starts at RM250.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng contributed RM200,000 to the Hilltop Murugan Temple for organising the successful Thaipusam event last month.

"I would like to congratulate the Hilltop Murugan Temple for organising a successful Thaipusam event last month. I hope the money contributed by the government will provide improvement towards the facilities for the devotees, public and international tourists during the week-long event," said Lim
The Hilltop Murugan Temple management team chairman Datuk Subramaniam Ramalingam thanked the state government for the contribution.
