24 foreign GROs detained in 'Ops Noda'

IPOH: Police detained 24 foreign women, believed to be working as guest relation officers (GRO), in an operation, "Ops Noda Khas" at two karaoke centres in the city early today.
Perak Secret Society, Gaming and Vice Division (D7) staff officer DSP Sajidan Abd Sukor said the foreign women were of Vietnam, Thai and Indonesian nationalities in their 30s and 40s.
He said police also detained seven local men and a Bangladeshi man, believed to be the caretakers at the entertainment outlets, were also detained in the 1.30am raid.
The raid was conducted following a month-long surveillance, he told reporters here today.
Sajidan said police also detained 18 Malaysians, including nine women, for gambling at one of the premises.
Also detained was a man, in his 30s, for drug possession, he said, adding that all the 51 people detained were then brought to the Perak police contingent headquarters for further action. — Bernama
