KOTA KINABALU: Sabah police believed a band of armed men, who attacked a fishing boat in Segama, Kinabatangan recently, were not members of a militant group.
State Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Razarudin Husain said the armed men were believed to have attempted to kidnap or rob the five fishermen in the boat but failed, when they managed to escape.
"Investigations revealed the armed men were from the Philippines based on the location of the incident near the national border with the Philippines," he told a news conference, here today.
Razarudin said police were in the process of identifying the group.
