Compromise for the sake of BN unity: Zahid

ALOR STAR: Barisan Nasional (BN) deputy chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pix) has reminded those keen to become candidates and existing ones to compromise for the sake of party unity in facing the 14th General Election (GE14).
It was among the mandate of the deputy prime minister during a special meeting with Kedah BN leadership being held for the Preparatory Briefing 2.0 heading towards the GE14.
State BN Women chief Datuk Sharifah Maznah Syed Kassim said the deputy prime minister emphasised on the unity of the party so that BN members could unite together to ensure the victory of the party in the coming GE.
"Apart from that, in terms of what was said by Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid, he seemed to express his confidence in the state BN. The party machinery in the state has since a few years back started its work plan to approach the voters and find for eligible voters," she said when met by reporters after the briefing session here last night.
Also present at the special meeting were state BN chairman and Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah as well as Kedah BN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, who is also Education Minister.
Meanwhile Kedah Gerakan chairman Datuk Dr Cheah Soon Hai said the deputy prime minister also stressed that party sabotage should also be avoided to ensure party victory in the GE14.
"We cannot sabotage the party and candidates who are identified because definitely the candidate can meet BN's needs and wants," he said.
He said the message from Ahmad Zahid also injected a spirit of encouragement to the component parties to work hard with Umno and with each other to ensure the success of the party in the coming GE14.
Meanwhile state BN organising secretary Datuk Ariffin Man said the deputy prime minister disclosed that the state BN's preparedness was at a good level so far and the party machinery had to be streamlined to further improve its position
"This is the spirit imbued in us. Our party machinery has been working hard since the last four years," he said. — Bernama
