MMEA detains 2 foreign boats for intrusion into Malaysian waters

KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has detained 20 Vietnamese fishermen onboard two fishing boats for illegal fishing in waters near the Jernih oil platform yesterday.
The suspects, aged between 15 and 71, who did not have travel documents, were picked up between 4.25am and 6.05am about 110 and 115 nautical miles from the estuary of Kuala Terengganu.
"The detention of the foreign fishing boats was the third in less than a week under an operation dubbed 'Operasi Perkasa Timur", state MMEA director Maritime Captain Rahim Ramli told a press conference here today.
He said also seized were fishing equipment, diesel and various types of catch worth RM2.4 million. — Bernama
