11,000 at Selangor CNY open house

PETALING JAYA: The Selangor state government held its 2018 Chinese New Year open house at Dataran Petaling Jaya last night.
A pair of dancing lions greeted the arrival Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin.
Selangor dewan speaker Hannah Yeoh and state senior executive councillor Datuk Teng Chang Khim, Petaling Jaya mayor Datuk Mohd Azizi Mohd Zain, city councillors, MPs and state assemblymen were among the VIPs present.
However, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhamed Azmin Ali was not present as he was not feeling well, Teng said in his speech.
"Our Mentri Besar cannot be here today as he is not feeling well, he has been busy looking after our beloved state. Let's hope he gets well soon," Teng said.
The event was attended by a large crowd estimated at 11,000 and people of all races were seen enjoying the spread of Malaysian delicacies at the food stalls set up while being entertained with cultural performances.
Children below 12 were given ang pows.
PJ City Bus services were prepared for the public making their way to the venue from selected public transportation stations.
For those driving to the event, 12 parking areas with around 5,700 lots were prepared.
